We headed to the train station and caught a train to Bruge. I´d heard that it is really touristy but that you cant miss out on it either. As we arrived it threatened to rain a bit, but the weather held out while we were there. We walked into the middle of town, first making our way through a route to see some sights.
We saw a gate on a bridge over the river. The gate building had a copper replica of the skull of a traitor who had opened the city gates and let an invading army through. Tough break, guy.
We kept walking and passed a lot of houses that were set for the poor and infirmed. In the centre of town it was quite packed out with tourists. But, it did seem like a very pretty and also bustling little town. We got chocolate beer and some white chocolate-covered coffee bean bits. Really good. We also saw a big square with a fountain thing in the middle.
We then went into the friet museum. Friet (like fritter, hint hint) is the word for hot chips. The museum was funny. It was mostly just about the potato – like, all you need to know and stuff you didn´t, about the humble potato. Once we made it through the bottom floor we got up to the bit about the actual chips. There wasn´t much on them. We did get a discount for some chips in their restaurant with our ticket. So, of course we had to go get some chips. I think that pretty much became dinner.
After the chip museum we pretty much just headed back to Brussels, but not before passing numerous chocolate stores. Man, I love Belgium.
We bought some dinner from the supermarket on the way, and also bought a variety of different cherry beers to try. We laid them out on the table, opened them all and then indulged.
