We started off the day with some self-catered breakfast at the hostel. They had a very good kitchen in there. We then used the metro to head out to the Atomium, a molecule-shaped monument for the 1958 world fair. Personally, I think it´s better than the Eiffel tower. At least, there were less crowds there.
We didn´t go inside though. It didn´t seem quite worth paying for a ticket. We stood outside and took some photos of the thing, including a jumping photo. We then used the metro tickets and made our way back into the city. The metro stations all had very cool artwork or weird design things. I guess it was all part of the feel and atmosphere of the city.
Our walking tour took us around to find some design shops. They were all closed though, some on Mondays, others for short breaks in the year. What a pity and a shame! We kept walking and got into the central part of the city again. We stopped in at the comic stores that we wanted to go into the night before. They were quite cool. Who knew that there was such a massive graphic novel and comic scene in French?
We also stopped in at a random little bar and had some kriek (cherry beer). Amazing stuff!
We had lunch on the steps of the...um, some building in the middle of the main street. I think it must have been a town hall or something. Cheese sandwiches, very nice. We walked into the big tourist centre part of Brussels and saw the things that one must see (like the statue of a urinating kid, the Manekkin Piss). We also had some free tasters of chocolate truffles. Absolutely delicious.
We stopped in to find some chips, but ended up going to some fast food tourist greek restaurant place. The staff were a bit assholish in seating us and the chips weren´t even that great. As we walked away we saw a proper chip restaurant, damn!
We had dinner at a nice little friendly place in the middle of the city. We had some more Kriek (cherry beer) and some nice pastas. From there we just headed back to the hostel.
