Sunday 10/8 Back to Brussels

We headed out in the morning and got to St Pancras station where we checked in for our Eurostar train to Belgium. The UK is pretty much the only country that you have to go through security and passport control with trains, probably because they´re so paranoid about their border control.

Waiting to board our train for Belgium

The train wasn´t too bad and we soon arrived at Brussels Midi station. We figured out where we needed to go, and caught the metro over to Rogier, near where our hostel was. When we arrived at the hostel we soon discovered that the person at the desk when we cancelled one of our bookings, had stuffed up and cancelled all of our bookings. So, we technically didn´t have anywhere to stay.

Well, luckily one of the managers (I think) helped us out and fixed the problem. He put us up in their emergency room for a night (it became a private room pretty much for us) and then put us for the remaining nights in a private room with en-suite. Woot.

Trendy little place, eh?

At our hostel in Brussels

We got our bags down in the room and headed out into the city. We had decided (as per usual) not to waste any time even if it was late and we were tired. We went out and walked around. We saw some fountains and statues, and some of the comic strips walls that are scatted around the city. They were quite cool. Brussels is a city of chocolate, chips and comics. It was Belgium and not France, that spawned Tintin, Marsupilami, and the Smurfs.

We saw some closed comic shops and decided to head back that way the next day. We also popped into a cool movie things store.

On our way back we stopped to look at a building which lights up at night. All the windows light up with colours and it puts on a show of colours, and also shows the weather! Very cool.
