We planned to sleep in a bit after that night out, but we ended up waking up much earlier, about 9am. Oh well, more of the day to go and do things, I thought. We packed our stuff and got checked out of that room and into a 5-person dorm that we would spend the next four nights at. Our dorm name was Best View as opposed to one nearby called Nice View. Our room really did have a great view out the window, looking over a lot of the city and giving a great panorama.
We ventured out into the city again. We caught the metro back to Staromestska Nam. This was the square we had stopped at the day before, when trying to find tourist information and to find a hostel to stay at. From the metro station we walked down Karlova street, going into some of the various tourist and souvenir stores along the way. There were also many marionette stores since apparently they are a big thing in Prague. There were even some theatres with daily puppet shows of things like Don Giovani.
At the square we took a closer and better look at the astronomical clock, than we did before. It was pretty cool, showing, I think, the alignment of the celestial bodies, or maybe the zodiac. Not quite sure. There were quite a few higher-end restaurants, cafés and bars around. Behind them all was the Tyn church with its twin spires sticking up into the blue sky.
We catch glimpse of sign for an exhibition of Mucha and Dali. Mucha is a great art nouveau artist. If you know of those old-looking posters in french for absynthe, then you´d know his style; very delicate lines with soft pastel colours, mostly of ladies. The exhibit was quite cool. His stuff was absolutely amazing, delicate and detailed yet immensely bold in itself. He was quite obviously a pioneer in his field, and a great influence to so many other artists.
At the same museum, and on the same ticket we bought, was a Dali exhibit, We had seen the larger Dali museum before, on our last trip to Europe proper, but we thought this might be interesting, and it wasn´t too much extra than just the ticket for Mucha. There was a lot of his less famous paintings, as well as a few statues. There was the Cosmic Rhino, the Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening, a fantastic series of painting depicting chapters of Dante´s Inferno, and some weird sculpture of a devil version of Dali himself.
After the museum we went and got food from a small place on one of the streets leading away from the square. We sat on the steps of some church nearby on Karlova street and ate, then headed over to a café in a backstreet for a coffee. Whilst there we had a conversation about great movies.
With the evening still ahead of us, tired from the night before and feet in aching pain from walking and covered in blisters, we thought we might catch a movie. We were still under the false belief that the Hulk was released, and hoped we could get to it. We found a big cinema place relatively nearby and ended up getting tickets for Wanted. It wasn´t all too bad as far as comic book movies go but lost some integrity part of the way through.
After that we made our way back to the hostel. We started to catch up a bit of blog drafting but suffered the fatal mistake of laying on the beds. I think we got one single day drafted and then we both fell asleep. Emma didn't even bother making up the sheets on her bed, she was so tired.
