We woke and got our bags ready, then popped down to breakfast. We hit up the shops along the beach, with a few of the tour girls. By about 10 we were gathered at the docks, waiting to depart on a fast sea jet ferry. Somehow, we lost the cherished water carry bag that we bought in Jerusalem. It´s still a mystery to this day. It was in the room and we hadn't taken it out, then suddenly it just wasn´t there. Damn! Annoying for the loss of convenience that it gave us.
We got on the ferry and headed off to the next island. It was a short ride, only about an hour port to port. We had allocated seats this time, meaning that there were actual seats inside and that we had assigned seat numbers each. Not too bad, just listened to music.
At Mykonos we disembarked and got our bags onto buses bound for our hotel (we got on said buses too!). The place was nice, and the island had much more development and was much more touristy than Paros. The beach area we stayed at was called Platis Gialos, a beautiful beach in a bay.
Our hotel was much nicer than the Paros one. In fact, it was four stars. How was that possible on our budget? We asked Niki and she told us that due to the nature of this tour, Top Deck gave us a bonus and booked us for a bit of a better hotel. The place was really spectacular, inside and out. The courtyards around the rooms was very nicely designed and the rooms themselves were big and beautiful.
The rooms weren´t ready yet so we went down and sat by the pool for a while, typing up blogs and also chatting to Dad on the phone. When the rooms were there we went and put our stuff in it. We were still wiped from the previous days and also wanted to avoid the sun due to our sunburns so we hung inside for a few hours.
We bought some tinned food for dinner, wanting to eat before we went out later to the main town. We got meat balls, large white beans and some peas. The food was actually really nice, albeit a bit oily.
We all caught a bus into the main town of Mykonos where Niki showed us the bus stop and a few things located around it. We walked down one of the main streets, across town, towards the water. The streets were the narrow labyrinths we had seen before but these were filled with tourist shops, kebab stores and other similar things. The paths were dirty and the whole things had a grittiness that contrasted to the ideas of being clean that the other Cyclades towns had.
We arrived at a main square and walked through to see a church that looked apparently like a melting cake. From there we walked through to the Little Venice area. It was quite cool. The restaurants were all along the waterfront and had fantastic view of the sea, the surrounding islands, and the windmills that make the area famous.
We made our way through the gauntlet of restaurants, dodging the owners who stood in our way to try and lure us into their places. Once past them we got to the windmills and went up to take photos and wait for the sunset.
From here some people stayed to eat dinner at one of the restaurants along Little Venice. A few of us others decided to go back and get ready to go out later. Bars and clubs, like Athens, only opened or got busy past 12. Niki walked us over to the taxi stop at a main square, showing us where some bars and clubs were located, along the way.
We taxied back and Em and I spent a couple hours getting ready, drinking pre-drinks and listening, then dancing, to some great music. When we were ready we caught the bus in and went back to that main square. We tried a couple of the places, had some drinks, but they were too empty at that time of night. We eventually decided to head over to Paradise Club, one of the two massive dance clubs, where everybody else in the group had gone due to a full moon party that was on that night.
We caught a bus and made our way. The place was huge. I´d never been to one of these massive dance parties so it was pretty interesting. The music wasn´t bad. It was house (I think) but better than RnB since you could actually dance to it. A few drinks and much dancing later it came to be about 4:30am and a lot of decided to head off.
It was a chore getting cabs back to the hotel, and took us probably 30-40 minutes of waiting and driving to get back. The drive only takes five minutes. Back in the room, we just crashed.
