Sunday 6/7 - Prague to Vienna

We woke up, got ready and checked out of our hostel. We got our packs and made our way to the station. When we got there, and after a few inquiries, we ascertained that we were at a local train station and not the international one. Not a problem. We took the metro down a few stops and got to the right place with plenty of time to spare, and then some!

We got our tickets validated and sat for a while. We had a couple hours to wait so we got some chicken baguettes and water, and had an early lunch. After a long time we went to wait on the platform. We set ourselves down and waited for about half an hour. There were a couple cool street art things on the walls near us.

When the train arrived it was all a bit chaotic. It was crowded trying to get on and find somewhere to sit. Having no reserved seats for ourselves, we just had to find a compartment with no names on the seat numbers. We eventually found a place, and sat with a couple of Irish guys and a couple of other guys who I thought were either Austrian or German (they were speaking German).

The trip was four and a half hours. I spent the the first hour and a half sleeping, a bit uncomfortably, but oh well. Then, I listened to music and blogged a bit for the rest. The scenery was really nice as we were going. The countryside was green and lush, although some of the towns we passed were a bit grey and kinda broke the image.

When we arrived in Vienna we made our way down to the entrance and ascertained where we needed to go. There was a nice and friendly staff person at the public transport ticket machines, helping out people. We caught a tram a fair way across the city and got off. We didnt really have a good sense of bearing at that point but eventually found the way we should walk, and made our way to the hostel, Wombat. What a really nice, modern, trendy place:)

We settled in and then went out for food. We found a fast food sort of place nearby and had chicken schnitzel rolls, and an ice tea drink that actually tasted like tea!

After, we went back to the hostel, used the net for a bit and then made our way down to the hostel´s bar: Wombar. Heh. I had a pint of Ottokringer, a local or Austrian beer. At some point the barman sounded a horn and gave free shots to everyone, straight from the bottle into mouths. Not sure what it was.

By about 11 I was finding that the previous night was catching up with me a bit, so I headed back up to the room to get some rest.

omgz I stayed at Wombat's! One of the best hostels in Europe, apparently. Bit pricey tho. Had a great brekky.
